(This plot was made in a chatzy with a little help from some people I don't remember.)
For years now, two rival steam factories have competed to stay in business - "Ensi Petos" and "Atropos Gwrtheyn". The two factories placed on opposite sides of a city dubbed "Pipe dream" depend on the economy there. It's because of the fact that both factories are struggling to stay open that they hate each other.
Recent word has got out that a Kumara Everlee, a big steam buyer, is coming to town. If he were to buy from one of the companies it would save them from poverty. Even saving the crippling economy of "Pipe dream". Then, an explosion destroyed the steam producers(?) of "Ensi Petos" forcing them to be unable to sell anything to the big buyer.
Ensi Petos accused Atropos Gwtheyn of sabotage, and it fueled the already brewing hate between them. In turn, a fight broke out and the city of "pipe dream" was caught in the wrath of it. Both factories hired local gang members to do their fighting for them. Fighting polluted and divided "Pipe dream".

Fuck yes!
Steam Punk Industrial Espionage going on here!
The really relevant pieces of information need to be answered here though.
A.) Are the two companies corrupt? B.) Who blew up the Ensi Factory? C.) Who is making the most profit here? D.) Do the two companies have spies within each others' companies? E.) Where do the PCs come into play?

Ah, no!
More questions!
Suppose I should get to answering them.
A.) Yes. Both of these companies are corrupt, but it's never broken out into violence before. B.) I wasn't really thinking about that when I made the plot. It could have been Atropos. Then again, it could have been a relative of someone who worked in Atropos. Or maybe just someone wanting to lower the fighting strength of Pipe dream for a take over. There are so many things that could be done here. C.) Ensi Petos is making more money, but Atropos is the larger company. In a time of need such as this, money could be loaned to them to hire fighters and crap like that. D.) Though I wasn't think about it, both companies are corrupt. It wouldn't be unthinkable. E.) This plot allows for many types of people to get involved. You could be a worker at either of the companies, a spy, or maybe a restaurant owner fighting to save his/her business. A wanderer, a clown from a traveling circus, some random hobo dude. THE LIMITS ARE NONEXISTENT.

A.) If both of the companies are corrupt, how far-reaching is the corruption? Meaning: Are there still people in either company that can be trusted by the PCs, or does every single person in both companies have their own agenda that will twist their interactions with the people? Ultimately, I believe that would be more interesting... B.) A relative of someone working in Atropos, who wants to lower the fighting strength of Pipe Dream for a hostile takeover. That sounds like your Big Bad to me. The person who is behind the scenes, pulling all the strings in an attempt to get the two companies to fight to the death with each other so that they can pick up the pieces and pretty much own the whole city afterwards. C.) Who would Atropos be going to for their loans? That is a very important bit, as if it is a shady place they are going that will undoubtedly come back to bite them on the ass at the most inopportune time.

A.) Sounds great! A dog eat dog world. In other words, do what you have to do to better your own circumstances. B.) Yup. C.) Atropos is a larger company, as I said. They just aren't making enough profits in Pipe Dream. In a time of trouble, tho', money can come pouring in to protect their investments. Just in case you're wondering, Atropos will wipe out Ensi if nothing is done.

Of course. The larger company would wipe out the smaller one if nothing is done. Well, Ensi wouldn't go down without a fight I'm sure.
The Big Bad would want to start the conflict, but then would want to make the two sides as even as possible. When it is obvious that Ensi is losing, what would they do to help the conflict towards their own ends? I would put my money on angering the investors. Giving them false information in order to get them to diminish their assistance of Atropos at the very least, and actively work against their investment at the worst.

Hehehe. When I entered the chat room that inspired me to make this, I had no intentions of even roleplaying. What I had in mind was flaunting and improving my skill at making plots. That very reason will be the reason I finish and perfect this plot.
So, lets go over what we got.
( Btw, looked up what pipe dream means. The guy who I was working with really knew what I had in mind. :/ )
Both companies are corrupt, but it's never broken out into violence before. Not all the workers of either company sees the vision of the future that the big bosses see. Assuming there is an opportunity to gain in a situation, expect workers to put their all in taking advantage of it.
Each company also has their own share of spies within each others companies. Even before the fighting started. It was not inconceivable for Ensi to think that Atropos sabotaged them.
In the city of pipe dream, Ensi Petos is the more popular company and makes more money, but Atropos belongs to a large chain of stores related to it. This allows Atropos Gwrtheyn to stay in business despite not making enough money. ( I should have probably mentioned that Atropos was on its way to going bankrupt. ) This only adds to the motive Atropos would have to sabotaging Ensi.
What next, I wonder?
That would have to be the character that decides to take the bad relations of the two companies and use them for personal gain. This character doesn't have to be delved into unless he/she is used to further the plot. Oh, and if you do enough things wrong, you might make an enemy out of Atropos Gwtheyn. It's a chain business, so they would have enough money to put a high ransom on your head.
That is all folks! SEE YOU LATER!

That's all you need for the plot. The actual playing is what determines what happens. What you could use now is a more detailed exposition on the setting, maybe a couple NPCs that are standard across all instances of this plot. I'd love to play through it once with you as well, just to get a little more of a feel as to what is missing and what could be improved upon.
