He's one of those exploder zombies?
You could tie him into the Old World. Basically, the Really Big Laser explodes, killing everyone on site. The entire underground facility was ripped wholly into the Old World for the smallest of moments. Now, everyone there is already quite dead by the time that this happens, but still. The place where most of the Really Big Laser Facility got transported to was solid stone - the entire place was basically instant fossil. However, the one room that Gadna happened to be in was occupied by a Sufficiently Advanced test facility, one that was experimenting with reanimating tissue. Because of how it happened, he formed in the room with half of his body intersecting a table, the table that they had their previous test subject on. He got a piece of his body fused with a piece of the dead test subject, and their genetics mixed.
Now, he was dead at this point. He didn't live through this process. But the reanimation project hadn't stuck with their test subject, because every time he regenerated his Link ability (which were probably pretty damn strong at the time) caused his entire body to explode every time he came back to life. The splicing with a completely powerless human caused the reanimation to skyrocket while causing the Link ability to tone down considerably. He can will himself to explode (and in small parts, too), while at the same time he will reanimate and regenerate indefinitely.
Like I said though, the smallest of moments. Before anything or anyone registered that the place was gone, it had come back. Nothing seemed to have changed with anyone other than Gadna because no one else was spliced with anything living - They were just part of the solid stone for that moment. He got back up. Now, his memory loss is easy to explain. There are two consciousnesses within him, two totally alien minds occupying the same body. Now, as both of those minds are incredibly complex and have a lot of power behind them, they quickly coincide and become one brain. However, with any merger, there were redundant pieces. Those pieces fell to the wayside, and so he has memory loss.
Obviously he has abilities 8 through 10 because of his zombie status. However, there's a cause for them. His alien part had nerve endings that were completely immune to pain as a part of his Link ability, the exploding mechanism. So he can still feel, just never pain. The regeneration comes from the experiment on reanimation, which is also why his head and center mass will grow back (I'm calling that) if they are destroyed but anything is left behind. The degeneration is the effect of both his human and alien genetics trying to influence his body at the same time. The massive defects are countered immediately by the regeneration, but he is constantly growing and destroying, attempting to be two people at once... Something he'll never be able to achieve.
